| Originally called 'The
Gem' the theater
was the region's first movie house for silent films through the 1920's
and later, the talkies. The Gem played host to a historic visit by then
Presidential candidate John F. Kennedy in 1960. The Stagedoor Players renamed the building and moved into the theater in the fall of 1990 and after extensive renovation performed their first production, Wizard of Oz, to sold out audiences in April, 1991. In 2002, the theater was re-christened the Old Gem in honor of the building's historic and cultural significance to the city of New Richmond and the St. Croix River Valley communities. The theater has embarked on a new and exciting chapter in its history. Not just for children anymore, the Old Gem is proud to present a full season of great entertainment for youth, families and adult audiences. Our events include a variety of high quality entertainments including comedy, music, dance and theater. |
